Job Description
The Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE) at Duke-NUS Medical School is responsible for protecting and commercialising inventions made by Duke-NUS researchers, managing collaborations and relationships with other organisations that may result in new products or services that impact patients and communities, and building an ecosystem of entrepreneurship at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre.
OIE executes its roles, in part, via the Centre for Technology and Development (CTeD), which is responsible for the identification, protection, development and commercialisation of intellectual property (IP) arising in Duke-NUS.
The Senior Manager, Commercialisation Operations is a member of the CTeD team and is critical in supporting functions that allow OIE to meet its strategic targets and expand its impact.
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
Contract Management
- Prepare, review and negotiate Material Transfer Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements and other simple IP agreements as required between researchers and third parties, in line with NUS’ policies and interacting with NUS’ Industry Liaison Office and with external law firms where necessary.
- Manage the administration and monitor the compliance requirements of all CTeD’s agreements, ensuring the handling, execution and recording of contracts is in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Provide support to the Technology Development Managers (TDMs) within the CTeD team with post-contract compliance and reporting obligations.
- Provide information and support to the Director and Vice-Dean, OIE regarding issues related to contract compliance and reporting obligations.
- Work with TDMs to ensure compliance with business processes to manage associated risk.
Operations and Reporting
- Oversee and further refine processes for consistent and rigorous management of the Duke-NUS IP asset portfolio, which includes licences, spin out companies, shareholdings, as well as managing revenue distribution, in compliance with the IP Policy.
- Contribute to and deliver timely reporting of tracked activity for CTeD team and OIE.
- Collate metrics required for formal reporting obligations to internal and external stakeholders, in consultation with the Director and Vice-Dean, OIE.
- Provide support to the TDMs to optimize the commercialisation operations, improve workflows and deliver on key performance indicators.
- Update the OIE Commercialisation Meetings on activities and issues and ensure all decisions are appropriately recorded.
- Coordinating event engagements and meetings for CTeD team.
- Point of contact for communications, including PR and website updates.
- Complete other ad hoc tasks as and when requested.
Information systems
- Manage and optimise the database systems to meet business needs and ensure compliance with Duke-NUS policies, best practice and other requirements.
- Work with TDMs to ensure rigorous adherence to the SOPs and work processes, and oversee improvements to deliver efficiencies.
Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in contracts administration, management and compliance, within the field of biomedical/biotechnology.
- Prior experience with intellectual property and managing IP asset portfolios and contract database systems.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and particularly fluent within Microsoft Excel environment and MS Office suite of products for frequent data analysis required for presentations and management updates.
- Possess excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Experience in a dynamic environment with proven ability to juggle multiple and competing demands and establish priorities, to accomplish job requirements in an efficient and effective manner.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an excellent eye for detail.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
