Education Associate II - Planetary Health

Job Description

The SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute (“SDGHI”) is a platform for global health activities across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (“AMC”). The Institute aims to address current and emerging health challenges across Asia. Working in collaboration with partners, the Institute seeks to tackle prevalent health challenges, strengthen health systems and better insulate countries from pandemics and disease threats.

The Planetary Health Initiative is SDGHI’s newest strategic initiative. Planetary health pertains to the integrated state of health of both people and the planet. It recognizes that people’s health is now greatly shaped by human-driven global environmental change, such as climate change, environmental pollution, rapid urbanisation, biodiversity loss, among others. Addressing these interlocking challenges requires concerted actions within and beyond the health sector, spanning diverse disciplines and nations.

During the Initiative’s inaugural phase, the Institute will focus on launching new educational and capacity-building activities, conducting landscape analysis of the current state of play especially at the regional level, exploring research collaborations with other planetary health-oriented groups within Singapore and beyond, and implementing policy influencing and advocacy activities – all geared towards positioning the Institute as an emerging thought leader in planetary health in Asia and beyond.

The Education Associate II will be part of the Initiative’s inaugural team and will significantly contribute to the early development of the Institute’s planetary health portfolio. Specifically, the selected candidate will support initiatives in the areas of education, training, capacity building, education research, and public and youth engagement. This position includes a variety of functions, not limited to the following: 

• Support in needs analysis, prioritise learning needs, and develop training roadmaps and syllabi.
• Collaborate with faculty members and guest educators in constructing effective learning materials and designing unique and meaningful educational experiences.
• Conduct periodic review of training materials to ensure quality of the materials, including accuracy and suitability of the delivery approaches.
• Design measures of programme effectiveness, monitor progress of learning programmes, and assist in the design and execution of education research projects.
• Participate in other activities of the Planetary Health Initiative (such as in the areas of advocacy, policy engagement, research, etc.).
• Perform other duties related to the work described therein such as administration and logistics.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in education, social sciences, public policy, communications, public health, sustainable development or other related fields with at least 2 years of experience 
• Bachelor’s Degree in any related fields with at least 4 to 6 years of knowledge, skills and expertise may also be considered. 
• Candidates with fewer number of years of experience may be considered for the junior position of Education Associate I.
• Competent in developing and constructing learning materials for tertiary education, adult learning, and public and youth engagement, as well as in facilitating learning activities and discussions and executing different types of educational experiences.
• Have strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills.
• Possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills which are vital for engagement with partners, collaborators, funders, and other external stakeholders.
• A team player who is able to prioritise, multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
