Laboratory Technologist (OR/EID/GJS2)

Job Description

The position is for a full-time Laboratory Technologist who will be involved in a study investigating viral molecular epidemiology. The successful candidate will conduct sample screening, cell culture and sequencing of viral isolates. The other duties include:
 

• Manage timely acquisition and archive of biological samples.
• Perform pathogen screening using multiplex-PCR and Luminex based systems, virus culturing, PCR and genome sequencing.
• Perform basic laboratory preparations, ordering and managing of laboratory consumables.
• Assist in managing risk assessment and protocol inventory.
• Perform basic computational analysis, such as data collection and curation, genetic sequence contig assembly, PCR primer design and genetic sequence alignment.
• Perform basic administration, as well as maintain and archive SOPs and permits. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the reporting manager, such as conducting experiments where required.

Job Requirements

• Diploma or equivalent in Biotechnology.  
• Demonstrated basic knowledge, skills and technical expertise in molecular biology/cell biology.
• Have knowledge in basic routine laboratory skills, including biological safety.
• Possess knowledge in basic molecular biology skills, including PCR.
• Proven laboratory experimental skills.
• Proficient in computer skills and general software applications that facilitate work operations.  
• A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
