Job Description

The Media & Content Specialist supports the media and content teams at Duke-NUS Medical School. This role is instrumental in developing and implementing the School’s national and global media strategy to sustainably elevate Duke-NUS’ reputation as Singapore’s flagship graduate-entry medical school, and a world-class research and innovation centre that strives to transform medicine and improve lives in Singapore and beyond.

Media relations
•    Collaborate and build relationships with external stakeholders and partners for publicity opportunities.
•    Explore, research and ideate stories, commentaries/op-eds and profiles that can be successfully pitched to the media.
•    Support the team in packaging compelling stories about scientific discoveries, research commercialisation, educational innovations, and people from across Duke-NUS (alumni, students, faculty, staff) in a way that maximises media pick-up.
•    Draft and produce press kit materials, briefing documents, media profiles, pitches and related collaterals.
•    Proactively pitch agreed-on media stories to target journalists.
•    Support the media team by managing assigned media relations activities, including media interviews for Duke-NUS spokespersons and media events.
•    Maintain and develop general (local/international) and specialist media lists.
•    Monitor media mentions and compile the assigned reports.
Content generation
•    Build relationships with researchers, alumni, students and assigned internal stakeholders.
•    Research and ideate story ideas for Duke-NUS-owned platforms.
•    Write for Duke-NUS-owned media channels, including internal and external publications, and social media platforms.
•    Collaborate within the Communications team and with internal stakeholders to conceptualise multimedia content (e.g., animations, infographics, illustrations, videos, etc.).
Department support duties
•    Support the Communications team and internal stakeholders by providing copy-editing, proofing and house-style editing support for assigned projects.
•    Contribute to events and large-scale special projects owned / produced by the team in the assigned role.
•    Undertake tasks assigned by the Head of the Department and contribute to special projects such as 20th-anniversary activities.

Qualifications

•    At least a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. 
•    At least two years of relevant work experience in journalism, public relations or corporate communications.
•    Track record of ability to work well with a diverse range of people, including School and University leadership, academics, clinicians and scientists.
•    An interest in science and medicine is a must, and prior work experience in journalism or science, health or education sectors would be advantageous.
•    Excellent command of spoken and written English with an eye for detail. Public speaking and competency in a second national language will be an advantage.
•    Interest and experience in data visualisation, illustration, other multimedia or AI-based approaches will be an advantage.
•    Ability to work with minimal supervision or instructions.
•    Good project, stakeholder and time management, organisational and coordination skills.
•    Creative thinker with a good understanding of effective storytelling for different platforms.
•    Prolific creator/producer who can perform well under pressure. 
•    Able to manage multiple projects, work well independently and with others.
