Job Description - Qualitative

The Lien Centre for Palliative Care (LCPC) at Duke-NUS Medical School invites applications for a Research Assistant / Research Associate to support ongoing qualitative research in palliative and end-of-life care.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior investigators on studies involving patients with serious illness, family caregivers, and healthcare professionals. This role offers hands-on experience in qualitative (and selected quantitative) palliative care research within a multidisciplinary and collaborative academic environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals
  • Manage qualitative data, including transcription, coding, and organisation
  • Analyse qualitative data
  • Prepare study-related documents, including ethics submissions, progress reports, and study materials
  • Liaise with clinical and institutional stakeholders as required
  • Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree with 1–2 years of relevant research experience, in a related discipline (e.g. Public Health, Psychology, Social Sciences, Nursing, Life Sciences, or related fields)
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Prior experience or demonstrated training in qualitative research methods; familiarity with quantitative methods is an advantage
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin or Malay, with the ability to conduct research interviews due to the nature of the work
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Sensitivity and professionalism when working with palliative care populations
