Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

EID is seeking a highly motivated team player to join its laboratory to focus on various aspects of translational immunology and aging research in bats. The work will be conducted in a research group led by Professor Linfa Wang who is an international leader in bat biology and bat-virus interaction. The projects focus on inflammation and aging, and have multiple national and international collaborations.

Prof Wang’s group submitted for a 6-year European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant project titled ‘BATPROTECT’ recently and it has been selected for funding. This study will use bats as natural models of healthy aging and disease tolerance to elucidate the molecular mechanisms behind bat’s exceptional longevity and resistance to viral and age-related diseases. The candidate will work closely with other members of the Wang’s group and the BATPROTECT team.

The candidate is expected to perform a variety of research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate. The main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: -
