Job Description

The Endogenous Peptides Laboratory (EPL) within the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme is looking for a Research Assistant / Research Associate to take on the functional Laboratory Manager role. He or she will report directly to the Principal Investigator and be responsible for ensuring smooth operations and management of the laboratory by overseeing financial, administrative and logistical matters. The candidate will also manage the lab’s Phenomaster platform which performs continuous rodent monitoring for cardio-metabolic phenotyping. 

 

  • Administrative upkeep of the lab (40%)
    • Safety and compliance documentation
    • Procurement, inventory maintenance, and budget management
    • Liaison with external vendors
    • Animal protocol documentation
  • Manage the Phenomaster platform which operates as a core facility within Duke-NUS (40%)
    • Liaison with clients 
    • Run and maintain the machine
    • Provide standardised data reporting
    • Billing and administrative upkeep 
  • Routine laboratory procedures for technical support of laboratory operations (20%)
    • Molecular biology (cloning, DNA, RNA extraction), basic histology, lentiviral production, NGS library sequencing
  • Assist Principal Investigator with grant management (ad-hoc)
    • Documentation and grant reporting
    • Stakeholder management

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with at least 3 years of relevant work experience. Candidates with higher credentials may be considered for more senior appointments. 
  • Meticulous, well-organised and have good time management to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Experienced in basic mouse handling and molecular biology techniques (DNA cloning; protein work) and cell culture techniques preferred.
