The Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD) Programme is focused on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric and eye disorders.
 
The Translational Neuroscience Group led by Professor Vincenzo De Paola (https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/nbd/the-team/faculty-members/details/Detail/de-paola-vincenzo) at Duke-NUS Medical School is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate with a strong research background. 
 
This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic team at Duke-NUS to make an impact on research and education. The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), including but not limited to the following: -
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the in vivo xenotransplantation and imaging aspects of the projects. 
  • Provide validation of ASO targets for down syndrome projects.
     

1. Research Execution & Design

  • Plan, design and perform experiments within a defined research area under PI’s supervision.
  • Conduct literature reviews and design research protocols.
  • Troubleshoot and optimise experimental workflows independently.
     

2. Data Management & Analysis

  • Collect, process, and analyse experimental data.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and visualisations.
     

3. Scientific Communication

  • Contribute to writing and editing manuscripts, grant applications, and patent applications.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals (including independent submissions).
     

4. Lab Leadership & Training

  • Guide students and research assistants.
  • Conduct lab demonstrations and training sessions.
  • Assist with project coordination and resource management

Job Requirement

  • Master’s Degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on laboratory experience with in vivo models.
  • Demonstrated expertise in stereotaxic surgeries.
  • Have strong molecular biology skills (qPCR, Western blot, IHC/IF) and experience with ASO therapeutics validation is preferred. 
  • Able to design and optimise complex in vivo experiments.
  • Process skills in behavioral phenotyping and tissue processing.
  • Have experience in maintaining detailed surgical records and compliance documentation.
  • Have knowledge on ethical guidelines for animal research.
  • Demonstrated capability of research independence. 
  • Possess strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills. 
  • Proven ability to work harmoniously in a team and to establish and maintain effective professional peer working relationships.
