Job Description

We are looking for talented wet-lab Research Fellow to work with a multidisciplinary group of scientists on the discovery of new targets for therapy in Diabetic Nephropathy (DN), a devastating complication of diabetes causing significant morbidity, mortality and human suffering. In Singapore, the incidence of DN as a cause of end-stage kidney disease is among the highest in the world. The job will be part of the NMRC-funded project called Diabetes Study in Nephropathy and other Microvascular Complications II, and it will be based within the Centre for Computational Biology (CCB). This position will be for a period of 3 years, with possible extension depending on work performance and funding availability.


The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities, which include planning, organising and conducting research studies within the overall scope of a research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following: 

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of experimental research required by the research component of the project.
  • Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for independent research which could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field attracting research funding.
  • Provide support for external grant/protocol development, study design and management of research activities.
  • Contribute to occasional educational / instructional activities and project management.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate / medical students and research assistants.
  • Maintain optimal experiment progress in the laboratory or in the research work undertaken.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in a related scientific area (e.g., Life Sciences/Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology). Candidates with higher credentials may be considered for Senior Research Fellow appointment.
  • Hands-on experience with transgenic models (breeding and maintenance) and surgery. 
  • Experience with rodents (mice/rats) phenotyping, including metabolic traits, biochemistry, histology and microscopy. 
  • Hands-on experience with wet-lab techniques in molecular and cell biology, including familiarity with primary cell cultures and inflammatory and metabolic cellular assays. 
  • Possess knowledge and experience in pharmacology and pharmacokinetics.
  • Have a system-level understanding of human cardiometabolic pathology.
  • Proven track record in the form of peer-reviewed research publications.
  • Demonstrated capability of research independence progressively.
  • Possess strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills.
  • A team player who is able to prioritise, multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
