Research Fellow (CVMD/ZJ)
Date: 31 Oct 2024
Location: DUKE-NUS MEDICAL SCHOOL, Outram Campus, SG
Company: National University of Singapore
Job Description
The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme at Duke-NUS houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in model organisms and undertakes translational research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. The program has a strong track record of publication in top-tier journals, successful commercialisation efforts leading to spin-offs, as well as nurturing early career researchers into independent academic or industry positions.
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is a severe metabolic liver disease that can affect up to 6.5% of the adult population, with only one FDA-approved drug. Dr. Jin Zhou’s team is specialised in studying the novel molecular pathogenesis underlying MASH for the identification of new druggable targets. The lab uses a combination of biochemistry, genetics, animal modeling, and metabolomics approaches to understand cellular processes related to mitochondrial function and hepatic lipid metabolism.
We are looking for a highly self-motivated Research Fellow to join the team. The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities, including but not limited to the following:
- Independently carry out the design and execution of experimental research required by the research component of the project.
- Maintain optimal experiment progress in the laboratory or in the research work undertaken.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all findings and ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times.
- Present research outcomes orally, and draft research abstracts and manuscripts for publication.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate/medical students and research assistants.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Requirements
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, or related disciplines.
- Hands-on experience with mice models, as well as wet-lab techniques in molecular and cell biology. Prior experience in polysome and/or ribosome profiling would be advantageous.
- Proven track record of academic publications, including writing/drafting first-author papers.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, technical independence, and analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated individual, enthusiastic to take initiative, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
