Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

We are looking for a talented Research Fellow to study the antigen-specific cellular immune responses to emerging viral diseases using classical and newly developed cellular assays. The primary objective of the project is to develop and assess novel, high-throughput immunological assays to improve the surveillance of zoonotic spillover infection within a UKRI-Southeast Asia collaboration.

The candidate will perform a variety of research activities, which include planning, organising, and conducting research studies within the overall scope of research projects under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of experimental research required by the research component of the project.
  • Develop and test novel T cell assays against various viral pathogens of interest.
  • Conduct in vitro experiments to study immune responses against various pathogens.
  • Engage actively with multiple international collaborators, clinical and industry counterparts, and team members to achieve the project's goals. A strong team player is required.
  • Write research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas, and develop plans for independent research that could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field, attracting research funding.
  • Provide support for external grant/protocol development, study design, and management of research activities.
  • Contribute to occasional educational/instructional activities and project management.
  • Perform other duties related to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Immunology, or other related biomedical fields with immunology/infectious diseases background.
  • Have good technical knowledge of immunology assays.
  • Prior experience in handling and management of BSL-2 viral pathogens/clinical samples.
  • Able to adapt to work with different pathogens/clinical samples of interest.
  • Demonstrate excellent quantitative, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Possess interpersonal communication skills with excellent written and oral communication.
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, independent, highly motivated, and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
