Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. 


The EID Programme is seeking a highly organised, collaborative, and self-driven Research Fellow, Research Associate or Research Assistant to work under our Programme. This position offers an opportunity to join an interdisciplinary programme staff and work on cutting-edge international research projects. 


The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating lab-based research activities in collaboration with researchers from Southeast Asia countries for three NIH-funded projects at Prof. Linfa Wang’s group. The position requires proactive communications with collaborators to ensure smooth project implementation and great attention to detail in administration tasks, as well as expected to perform basic lab testing work and provide corresponding training and troubleshooting for labs in other countries. This position is based in Singapore, with travel required to visit collaborator labs in other countries in Southeast Asia.


The candidate is expected to perform a variety of research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate. The main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to following: -
 

  • Liaise with Duke NUS and EcoHealth Alliance teams to ensure that project activities remain within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Obtain necessary approvals and permit documents at Duke NUS for research activities, including ethical approvals (e.g., IRB and IACUC), as well as to ship biological samples internationally (e.g., MTA, import/export permits), etc.
  • Serve as a point of communication among project leads at Duke NUS, EcoHealth Alliance, and in-country collaborators to assist with the development and planning of research activities.
  • Contribute to project reports and updates to funders, project collaborators, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and provide on-site and virtual training and troubleshooting to laboratory partners in other countries.
  • Maintain and develop new relationships with project collaborators.
  • Contribute to data analysis, scientific manuscript development, and publication.
  • Presenting research at scientific conferences, project meetings, and other outreach events is encouraged.
  • Travel international to countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, etc.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate / medical students and research assistants.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein. 

Job Requirements

  • PhD or Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Public Health, Biological or Medical Science, or a related field in the life sciences with 2 years of experience in wet lab work and experience with serological assays.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in coordinating or managing international projects would be advantageous.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Have strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Willing to travel internationally in Southeast Asia. 
  • Have experience in providing training to international teams.
  • Have good command of written and spoken English as the candidate needs to liaise with stakeholders.  Proficiency in other ASEAN languages would be advantageous.  
  • Have a strong sense of team spirit and collaboration.
  • Possess knowledge of emerging infectious diseases surveillance would be advantageous.
  • A team player who is able to prioritise, multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
