Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD) focuses on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric, and ophthalmological disorders.
The Shawn Je laboratory at Duke-NUS Medical School focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanisms that lead to neural disorders and identifying new therapeutic targets for these diseases. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) derived from patient cells, genomics, CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing, genomics, proteomics, small molecule screens, single-cell analysis, and electrophysiology are all technologies applied to deepen our understanding of uncurable neural disorders (Jo et al., Annals of Neurology, 2021; Cho et al., Nature Comm, 2021; Kwak et al., Stem Cells, 2020, Sun et al., Science, 2019.). The laboratory is seeking a Research Fellow to model neural disorders using iPSCs and will work in collaboration with another laboratory in the Programme. The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following: 

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of innovative research aimed at understanding the role of genetic aberrations in rare neural disorders (syndromic autism, familial Parkinson’s disease, familial Alzheimer’s disease, and other rare neural disorders). 
  • Focus on developing protocols to generate specific subtypes of human-induced neurons and brain organoids.
  • Perform data analysis, annotation, and protocol (IRB/IACUC/GMAC) preparation.
  • Attend and participate in institutional programs, seminars, and laboratory meetings. 

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or other related fields with cell culture skills. 
  • Possess knowledge of Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). 
  • Have knowledge of stem cell biology and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.
  • Able to work well in an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated, and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
