Duke-NUS Medical School is looking for a postdoctoral Research Fellow with substantial experience in the use of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and haptics for medical simulation. This position will develop and grow these exciting areas as part of the education, research, development and innovation programmes, and of the wider strategic vision of Duke-NUS Medical School to be an international centre of excellence.

The successful candidate will explore the use and application of AR/VR for simulation in a range of procedural, medical/ surgical contexts and disciplines, in collaboration with clinicians and clinician educators across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC). The integration of realistic haptics interaction through bespoke haptic interfaces and/or mixed reality approaches will be an important focus of the work, as well as the development and validation of simulator prototypes and other innovative and entrepreneurial solutions. The roles and responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Plan and carry out research and development on AR/VR and haptics for medical simulation under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
  • Consult with Clinical Faculty, hospital clinicians, residents and MD students regarding the use of AR/VR and haptics for medical simulation.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Faculty and hospital clinicians to design, develop, implement and evaluate procedural, medical and/or surgical simulator prototypes using AR/VR and haptic technologies.
  • Conduct workshops, courses and other programmes of development to build AR/VR and haptics research capacity and capabilities across the School and the SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC.
  • Liaise with groups and individuals in the SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC and NUS working on AR/VR, haptics and medical simulation.
  • Link and collaborate with AR/VR and haptics research groups and centres across Singapore and beyond.
  • Write progress reports and assist in the preparation of results for publication and dissemination via presentations to colleagues, at conferences, peer-reviewed journals, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all research & development work and findings.
  • Apply for internal/external funding for studies/projects in AR/VR & haptics for medical simulation
  • Contribute to the delivery of research strategy for the Office of Education, with emphasis on promoting and supporting the use of AR/VR and haptics for medical simulation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science/Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology or other related/relevant fields.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the use of AR/VR and haptics for medical simulation.
