Job Description

The Duke-NUS Medical School Development team is seeking a dynamic candidate to advance the philanthropic priorities of the School. The candidate will identify funding opportunities and cultivate prospective donors to support the School’s long-term financial sustainability.
The ideal candidate is adept in building strong relationships with high net worth individuals, family offices, corporations and foundations to solicit gifts, and is donor-centric in providing exceptional stewardship to benefactors.

  • Manage a portfolio of existing donors to renew and reactivate philanthropic support.
  • Proactively identify, qualify and cultivate new prospects to acquire new Principle, Major and Leadership gifts to broaden the donor base.
  • Support Volunteers, Connectors, Senior Leadership and Faculty to cultivate prospective donors to build the pipeline of gift cases.
  • Conceptualise and drive fundraising strategies and activities for various donor and prospect segments.
  • Plan and organise internal and external fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Research, draft and prepare tailored proposals, presentations and appeal letters for gift solicitation.
  • Prepare documents for gift acceptance.
  • Engage internal stakeholders to develop new philanthropic opportunities.
  • Research industry needs and prospective donors’ requirements to align the School’s academic and research causes with prospects’ philanthropic interests.
  • Work with colleagues to identify and drive new donor markets and segments based on the value proposition pillars and unique strengths of the School.
  • Build a strong partnership with the NUS Development Office to coordinate conversations on gift opportunities and ideas to facilitate gift enquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with NUS regulations, MoE guidelines and the Charities Act pertaining to the solicitation of gifts.
  • Develop and implement bespoke communications, events and recognition opportunities to engage existing donors and new prospects.
  • Liaise, coordinate and host stewardship events for donors.
  • Prepare timely management reports on donor prospecting, pipeline of gifts and stewardship activities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Development Head.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration.
  • Minimum 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience in fundraising, sponsorships, business development or client-servicing.
  • Prior experience in the non-profit or higher education sector would be advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with an eye for detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, with demonstrated competencies in front-facing roles.
  • Experienced in aligning project needs with stakeholder interests.
  • Strong active listening skills and ability to negotiate positive outcomes.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with a trailblazing ‘can-do’ spirit.
  • The candidate is a highly driven, responsible and independent individual, who is results-oriented, able to take initiative and work on competing tasks concurrently.
  • Passionate about philanthropy for higher education and creating meaningful impact for the wider community.
  • Demonstrated discretion in preparing and handling confidential and sensitive information.
