Job Description

The Duke-NUS Centre for Vision Research brings together the strength and capabilities as well as expertise in ophthalmology and vision sciences research within the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre. It paves the way for the creation of an all-encompassing amalgamated clinical, experimental and fundamental vision sciences platform that is able to holistically address all areas of vision disorders. This is aligned with the current goals of Singapore’s biomedical sciences initiative, in which the application of early and late-stage translational research with direct clinical and population impact is a top priority.

The Centre is looking for a Research Assistant to join Assistant Prof Zhenxun Wang’s laboratory. The Group's primary focus is understanding glaucoma pathogenesis. Using multidisciplinary approaches to decipher next generation sequencing data from large cohort studies, the Group aims to delineate the role of risk genes and their influence in pathophysiology underpinning glaucoma disease progression. 

This role will provide an exciting opportunity for the individual to learn and experience world class cutting-edge research and play an important role in impacting patients’ lives. The selected candidate will perform a variety of functions related to research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including the following: -

  • Perform administrative tasks in support the research project.
  • Perform in vitro cell assays and molecular biology experiments.
  • Perform rodent experiments, including breeding and basic animal husbandry.
  • Assist researchers in contributing to some aspects of the project management including procurement of laboratory supplies. 
  • Assist with general upkeep of laboratory needs, maintain safety protocols, provide technical support and establish work procedures to ongoing research projects.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences/Life Sciences with at least 1-2 years of work experience in a research environment. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and expertise in molecular biology, cellular assays, and animal handling is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a strong team player who is organised, energetic, open-minded, highly motivated, able to multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
