Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

We are seeking a full-time Research Fellow with a background in ecology, epidemiology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, or other related disciplines to support disease surveillance at the animal-human interface in Asia. The selected candidate will perform a variety of activities that include planning, organising and conducting research studies within the overall scope of the research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following:

•    Assist in research projects with local and international collaborators.
•    Generate and collate data for inclusion in research papers, presentations, reports to funding agencies, and research funding applications.
•    Ensure and maintain optimal progress of field and laboratory work.
•    Provide regular updates on research progress to the PI and research team including through oral presentations and written research reports.
•    Supervise junior members of the research team including graduate students and research assistants.
•    Perform other related duties incidental to the project theme.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in ecology, epidemiology, evolutionary biology, microbiology or related field with a minimum of 2 years post-doctoral research experience 
  • Excellent quantitative skills, such as scientific programming, statistical estimation, and inference, or previous experience with methods for genomic sequencing and/or genomic analysis would be an asset.
  • Proven track record of contributing to successful research programmes, including authorship on publications.
  • Strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work harmoniously in a team and to establish and maintain effective professional peer working relationships.
