Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

Our laboratory studies rapidly evolving RNA viruses including influenza virus, coronavirus and parainfluenza virus. This position is for a full-time Research Fellow with a strong background in Virology, Molecular Biology and/or Immunology. The candidate is expected to play a critical role in generating and fostering a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research environment. He/She will perform a variety of research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate. The main duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of high precision in vitro and in vivo experiments related to pathogenesis and host immune response of coronaviruses or other respiratory pathogens
  • Interface and network with clinical counterparts and team members to achieve the goals of the project
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and writing skills in preparing research manuscripts, grant proposals, intellectual property documentation and project reports
  • Demonstrate and present research output
  • Supervise junior members in the laboratory including graduate students and research assistants
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the project theme

Job Requirement

  • Highly motivated and dedicated person with a PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Biotechnology, or related biomedical field
  • Possess a strong background in molecular virology
  • Knowledge of scripting and/or programming languages and statistical packages would be advantageous
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and organization skills
  • Ability to complete tasks efficiently and independently
  • Strong team player, attention to detail, with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse workforce
