Job Description


Duke-NUS embodies a strategic partnership between Duke University and National University of Singapore (NUS). It works closely with the Singapore Health Services (SingHealth) cluster which is a network of national specialty disease centres, hospitals and polyclinics, to advance medicine and improve lives through cutting-edge research and education. Together, Duke-NUS and SingHealth form an Academic Medical Centre that comprises a number of academic collaborations. Among these collaborations is the Academic Medicine Innovation Institute, a forum for convening health services, medical device, and digital innovations.

The Signature Research Programme in Health Services and Systems Research (HSSR) in Duke-NUS is a centre of academic excellence for research and education on the organisation, funding and delivery of health services. The programme’s focus is on public health and clinical service innovation in an increasingly complex and connected world. The major research focus of HSSR is the organisation and delivery of health and social services in the context of an ageing population. The research methods include decision science and simulation modelling, survey research, qualitative research, health economics, and implementation science and evaluation. We are also developing a range of education activities for healthcare professionals including, short courses, graduate certificates, Masters course and PhD programmes.

A research position is currently available and the successful candidate will be expected to perform a variety of research activities which include the following: -


  • Work with clinical/research teams to establish the economic value of configurations of ‘immunotherapy interventions and Companion Diagnostics’ for cancer.
  • Work with clinical/research teams to propose decision problems and associated research questions that are plausible and important and can be addressed with existing sources of information.
  • Design and validate cost-effectiveness models, update with information & evaluate models and report and disseminate findings.
  • Develop own research programme relevant to the scope of HSSR.
  • Provide quality teaching through various platforms such as workshops and seminars, and mentoring of medical students/learners in health services.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of educational strategies with a particular emphasis on pedagogical innovation and curriculum enhancement.
  • Engage in some form of educational service activities such as curriculum planning and development, committee work, etc. to support the development of students/learners.



  • PhD in a discipline relevant to health services research with minimum 5 years of experience in quantitative methods research will be considered for the position of Research Fellow.
  • Master’s Degree with minimum 2 years of relevant research experience will be considered for the position of Research Associate.
  • Have experience in study designs for health services outcomes and cost-effectiveness research.
  • Prior experience in working with commercial partners would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable commitment to research and scholarship through evidences such as scholarly activities, knowledge creation, synthesis, application and dissemination.
  • Possess strong writing and critical thinking skills as well as good communication and presentation skills.
  • Have experience in organising and leading seminars as well as developing and delivering teaching materials at the postgraduate level.
  • Experienced in grant and manuscript writing.
  • A team player who is highly motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse workforce.


The position is for two years and renewal is subject to mutual satisfaction and availability of funds.
