The Department of English, Linguistics & Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore invites exceptional candidates to apply for the position of Presidential Young Professor (PYP) at the rank of Assistant Professor, to commence in January or July 2025. Those working in any field of literature or literary theory are encouraged to apply. That said, the department is especially interested in candidates who have expertise in Romanticism, Shakespeare studies, or contemporary Asian literature, with added specializations in race and/or queer theories.

The PYP scheme is designed for tenure-track faculty with outstanding research potential, and offers a start-up research package of up to SGD 750,000, as well as an award of SGD 250,000 for discretionary spending. Salaries are highly competitive, with benefits including subsidized housing. The teaching load is 2:1 (one or two courses per semester, totaling three per academic year). This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate instruction.

1. A brief cover letter;

2. A complete CV;

3. A research statement and a three-year research plan;

4. Two signature publications by the applicant (as lead author);

5. Contact information for three referees. For shortlisted applicants, the Search Committee will contact the referees directly for their letters. The referees may be asked to compare the research performance of the applicant to other individuals at equivalent and top institutions and/or programs.
