Job Description

The Centre for Computational Social Science and Humanities (CSSH) is seeking a Research Associate to join our collaborative team and advance computational research in the social sciences and humanities.

 

Position Overview
As Research Associate, you will design and implement high-quality, sustainable software to drive research in computational social science and humanities. You will collaborate with CSSH management, faculty and external partners to translate research priorities into software solutions, including data analysis, model implementation, and tool development. Your expertise in computational methods and machine learning workflows will be crucial in advising scholars and contributing to research outputs. This full-time position is based in Singapore.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain research software using best practices in software engineering
  • Implement and optimize machine learning workflows for social science and humanities research
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
  • Contribute to research articles and presentations
  • Help train graduate students and run master classes
  • Promote CSSH’s work within the broader computational social science and digital humanities communities

 

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing computational research in the social sciences and humanities at the National University of Singapore. We seek an individual who can bridge technical expertise with domain-specific knowledge related to the key themes of the centre to drive innovative research outcomes. The themes are: 1) computational models of social behaviour; 2) digital platforms and ecosystems; 3) health and social care; 4) social media, networks, and interactions; 5) texts, heritage and culture.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Social Science, Digital Humanities, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills and experience, particularly in Python, with expertise in machine learning libraries and frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and optimizing machine learning workflows
  • Experience with data gathering, processing, and analysis from diverse sources and formats
  • Strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with researchers across disciplines

 

Preferred

  • Experience in computational social science or digital humanities research
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects
