Job Description

The Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI) is a non-profit organisation supported by the Ministry of Law, and a subsidiary of the National University of Singapore (housed at NUS’ Law Faculty).  It aims to establish, review and uphold high mediation standards , and ultimately support the professionalisation of mediation.  We do this through working with (amongst others) mediation training providers, service providers and SIMI-accredited mediators themselves.  

 

We wish to invite individual(s) to join us as a Consultant (Part Time) to help us further our mission.

 

You would be a self-starting, motivated person with a background or aptitude in two or more the following :
•    Communications and/or marketing (particularly in the online realm)
•    Journalism in a commercial field
•    Event management
•    Media relations
•    International cooperation

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will work independently yet closely with SIMI’s entire team and SIMI’s stakeholders which include mediation training providers, service providers, accredited mediators, industry associations, government offices, and local and foreign mediation-related bodies. Your duties would include :

  1. Developing an overall communication plan for SIMI targeted at various stakeholders.
  2. Supervising and implementing SIMI’s communications plan through various marketing/publicity efforts for mediation standards – this would include the complete revamp of SIMI’s website.
  3. Contribute to planning & execution of events and other collaboration initiatives to support SIMI’s mission to promote high mediation standards and developing a greater understanding and use of mediation.
  4. Work with the Executive Director and other SIMI staff to reply to stakeholders and members of the public/other organisations on all types of queries connected to SIMI, its work and initiatives.
     

Critical requirements and skills

You would have a background preferably in mass communications (though this is not essential).  More importantly, you should possess the following skill and attributes :

(i)  Good written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the context of interacting with stakeholders and people from different cultures
(ii)  Skills in developing creative, multimedia promotional and educational materials.
(iii)  Sensing skills as to the type of key messages which are required for various audiences.
(iv)  Administrative skills : extremely well-organized, goal- and detail-oriented.  
(v)  Event management skills across a variety of platforms : face to face, hybrid, and online models.
(vi)  Project management skills, particularly those involving processes.
(vii)  Networking skills : to nurture ongoing relationships with members and external stakeholders through various platforms.
(viii)  IT skills : besides proficiency in Microsoft Office, basic ability or knowledge in website management and desktop publishing using HTML and CSS skills would be highly regarded.    
(ix)  Social media skills : to direct SIMI’s various publicity and communications efforts.
 

Other requirements

It would be advantageous if you possess certifications or experience in collaborative dispute resolution. 

 

This is a part-time position (on average 18 hours per week), offering flexible working arrangements. It is being offered as a 2.5-year contract.
