Job Description
The Department of Architecture invites applications for one Tenure Track position in Architectural Conservation at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The Master of Arts in Architectural Conservation programme is a one-year graduate degree that specializes in conservation policy, architectural history, construction and preservation techniques and heritage management. It provides a distinct approach that is sensitive to the cultural richness of the Asian region as well as its urban challenges. Graduates of the programme move on to find careers in historic building conservation, architectural design consulting and other fields in both the public and private sectors.
The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, based on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2025). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as urban planning/design, landscape architecture and conservation. The faculty is correspondingly diverse and international. Qualifications
We are looking for a highly qualified, interdisciplinary, and inspirational candidate for the position of Assistant Professor in Architectural Conservation (Tenure Track). He/she should have relevant research expertise in policies, philosophies and practices pertaining to architectural and urban heritage. A strong focus on the Southeast Asian (or Asia more generally) context is essential. Tenure track faculty are expected to develop a compelling research agenda and demonstrate a high level of intellectual engagement with commensurate levels of productivity. They are also strongly encouraged to pursue collaborative research in the context of the College of Design and Engineering as well as with industry partners and government agencies within and beyond Singapore. A PhD is a prerequisite for this position.
In addition to research, the successful candidate is expected to teach core, elective and/or studio courses in accordance with the expected teaching load of full-time faculty in the department and his/her areas of specialization.
