Job Description

The Department of Architecture invites applications for up to two Tenure Track positions in Design Technology.  

The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2023). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as  
urban planning, urban design and integrated sustainable design. The faculty is correspondingly diverse and international. Qualifications

The Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore invites applications for up to two Tenure track (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor) position in architecture. Successful candidates should be actively engaged in design technology and environmental performance and sustainability of building forms and systems. They should have interests in developing interdisciplinary research employing traditional and emerging technologies contributing to a new understanding of the human ecosystem and the relationship between human and natural landscapes, at every scale, from the building component scale to the urban scale, with emphasis on the context of high density Asian cities and the tropics. They are strongly encouraged to develop collaborative research in the context of the newly established College of Design and Engineering as well as with industry partners and government agencies within and beyond Singapore.

Successful candidates should also have interests and experience in running environmental performance/sustainability design studios in an interdisciplinary setting. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to deploy the studio as a testbed for questions related to pressing challenges of high density Asian cities and tropical built environments. Successful candidates are also expected to teach core modules related to sustainability and building performance, potentially with an emphasis in materials, structures and/or human factors.

The candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in Architecture or related fields as well as requisite experience and credentials suitable for full-time appointment in NUS.  They should (i) demonstrate a proven track record in, or strong potential for, research; (ii) have the ability to teach both studio and core modules of sustainability and building performance at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and (iii) for the position of professor and associate professor, have strong academic credentials, extensive experience and strong competence in academic leadership and management. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.

4. A Statement of Research (including a short research plan for next three to five years maximum three pages) – citing up to five significant publications, creative work or other scholarly contribution and explaining their significance, and a writing sample.
5. Names of four referees with contact details (who will be contacted only if shortlisted). Please highlight any who is a member of your PhD dissertation committee.
