Job Description
The Department of Architecture invites applications for the position of Programme Director of the Master of Arts in Architectural Conservation programme.
The Master of Arts in Architectural Conservation programme is a one-year graduate degree that specializes in conservation policy, architectural history, construction and preservation techniques and heritage management. It provides a distinct approach that is sensitive to the cultural richness of the Asian region as well as its urban challenges. Graduates of the programme move on to find careers in historic building conservation, architectural design consulting and other fields in both the public and private sectors.
The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, based on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2024). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as urban planning/design, landscape architecture and conservation. The faculty is correspondingly diverse and international. Qualifications
We are looking for a senior and highly regarded professional in the field of architectural conservation and heritage management to assume this position. He/she will be a visionary leader with a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team and build networks in and outside of academia. The duties of the Programme Director include:
- Strategic positioning of the programme to build on its reputation and visibility in the international arena;
- Managing and overseeing curricular content and manpower needs of the courses;
- Attend to the needs of staff and students in the programme; and
- Liaising with the Head of Department and the management team to ensure the smooth running of the programme in accordance with the policies of the College and the University.
The successful candidate is also expected to teach core, elective and/or studio courses in accordance with the expected teaching load of full-time faculty in the Department and his/her areas of specialization. Applicants should indicate which rank (Professor or Associate Professor level) they are applying for. In general, those applying for the rank of Associate Professor should demonstrate a strong and sustained career in practice for 8 years and above, while the rank of Professor requires 12 years and above. A graduate-level architectural degree with accreditations by professional bodies is essential for the position.
