Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
• Setting up equipment (retrieving from storage, positioning on benches, cabling and power setup)
• Verifying proper operation of hardware and software
• Making necessary adjustments or calibrations prior to sessions
• Conducting trial runs for new procedures and refining setups
• Troubleshooting faulty equipment and arranging repair or replacement
• Cleaning, dismantling, and safely storing equipment after each session
• Assisting academic staff in designing and implementing experiments, and sourcing, procuring, installing, and testing new equipment for such experiments
For Design Lab(Shared Laboratory Premises):
• Assist in laboratory procurement and vendor engagement, including coordination for maintenance and servicing of shared equipment
• Processing financial documents; submission of claims related to laboratory operations and maintenance
• Maintain laboratory equipment inventory, including shared assets
• Assist in the lab safety management system and safety certification audits for shared laboratory premises
Carry out other laboratory-related and miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Department when there are manpower requirements at the Design Lab to support the lab classes and train new users on the testing machines
Qualifications
Job Requirements (Please state Qualification, Years of Experience, Knowledge & Skills required.)
• A BEng degree in the areas of robotics, systems control, mechatronics, automation, or equivalent.
• Knowledge and skills in a majority of the following areas: ROS, Python, Linux, electrical and electronic circuits and motion control boards, sensor and actuators, computer networking (e.g., wi-fi router, etc.)
• At least 1-year on-the-job or hands-on project experience involving a large subset of skills stated above.
• Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
• A good team player and able to work independently
• Desire to learn new skills as well as take on new responsibilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, e.g. Microsoft Office Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety management will be an advantage
• Knowledge/skill on 3D printing will be advantage
• Background knowledge in machining and computers/workstations is an advantage
