Job Description
The selected hire is required to provide operational support to both Structural Engineering & Geotechnical Engineering laboratories.
Some key responsibilities in Structural Engineering Laboratory would be:
1. Preparation of concrete and reinforced concrete specimen for lab sessions:
- Preparing concrete and reinforced concrete specimens for undergraduate lab sessions.
- Helping students with testing of various specimens in the during lab sessions.
- Providing safety guidelines before and during lab classes to ensure a safe working environment.
2. Guiding final year students with testing equipment by:
- Providing good guidance on how to operate the universal testing machines safely. (Capacity ranges from 10kN to 1000 kN).
- Providing good guidance on how to operate the hydraulic actuators safely (Capacity ranges from 1000 kN to 20000 kN).
3. Procurement and inventory management:
- General procurement and maintaining records of fixed assets and creating asset numbers.
- Managing safety-related documentation such as material safety data sheets, maintaining records of chemical inventory (Storage, issuance and disposal).
Key Responsibilities in the Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory would be:
1. Preparing soil/clay samples.
- Assisting in preparing soil/clay samples for use in undergraduate soil laboratory sessions.
- Helping students with testing of various specimens in and during the lab sessions.
2. Guiding final year students on testing equipment usage by:
- Ensuring safe operation of both existing and new geotechnical centrifuge facilities.
- Assisting in the testing and safe operation of existing and new geotechnical centrifuge facilities.
- Providing safety instructions to students to ensure safe lab operations.
3. Procurement, maintenance, and inventory management by:
- Coordinating with vendors for the operation and maintenance of centrifuge machines.
- Assisting with general procurement, maintaining the laboratory’s fixed assets and ensuring annual auditing of these assets.
Job Requirements
• At least at a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a recognised diploma in Civil/Mechanical Engineering with several years of relevant experience.
• On-the-job training (OJT) will be provided by senior lab technologist.
• Possess effective and good oral and written communication skills.
• A good team player and able to work collaboratively with students.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Innovative problem solver with the ability to multi-task and meticulous with a keen eye for details.
• Willing to learn and able to follow safety protocols and guidelines.
• Positive and open to changes and constant improvement to work processes.
• The candidate must be open to a fixed-term contract (i.e 2 years or 1 year), but the benefits will be equivalent to those of permanent staff.
