Laboratory and Workshop Lead (Department of the Bulit Environment)

Job Description

To be responsible for the effective and efficient operations of the laboratories and workshops, which include overseeing the day-to-day activities of the laboratories, supervising laboratory staff, managing laboratory equipment and supplies, as well as ensuring operations and processes are in compliance with safety regulations and standard.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1.    Oversee day-to-day operations of the laboratories and workshops.
2.    Manage and supervise laboratory staff, including their training and development.
3.    Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities, as well as storage of chemicals.
4.    Ensure laboratory operations, including usage and storage of chemicals, are in compliance with relevant requirements, regulations and standards.
5.    Prepare, maintain and update laboratory documents, reports and records.
6.    Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures, as well as relevant risk assessments.
7.    Coordinate with the department’s teaching staff to support the conduct of training for students in the laboratories and workshops.
8.    Manage the budget and procurement of laboratory equipment and teaching materials.
9.    Assume the role of safety lead and manage the safety and health management system, laboratory inspections and audits, as well as safety training of laboratory staff.
10.  Any other tasks as and when assigned.

Job Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in construction, building sciences, engineering or equivalent.
•    Minimum of five (5) years of experience in workshop and laboratory management role.
•    Ability to supervise and train laboratory personnel.
•    Knowledge of construction and laboratory equipment, chemical inventory management and safety regulations.
•    Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
•    Strong organizational, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
