Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant (RA) to support the Director of the Social Design Lab in managing the day-to-day operations of the Lab, conducting interdisciplinary research for undergraduate design studio teaching, coordinating stakeholder and student engagement, and supporting the planning and delivery of collaborative design projects with external partners. The RA will also assist in organising the Lab’s public programmes—including exhibitions, talks, workshops, public engagement activities and in documenting and communicating the Lab’s work across platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct literature reviews, precedent studies, and policy research related to undergraduate design studio teaching.
• Support data collection and analysis through interviews, surveys, fieldwork, and visual documentation.
• Assist in preparing reports, grant proposals, publications, and presentation materials.
• Coordinate, set-up and document workshops, talks, exhibitions, and community engagement sessions.
• Assist in curriculum and pedagogical research relevant to undergraduate design studio teaching.
• Develop drawings, diagrams, maps, and prototypes using relevant design software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, ArcGIS).
• Liaise with project partners including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities.
Qualifications
• Degree in Architecture or Design.
• Demonstrate interest in social impact, community engagement, or socially engaged practice.
• Strong project management, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in design and visualisation software.
• Proficiency in visual communication.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
