Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate to kick-start, manage, and contribute to an advanced textile manufacturing lab in NUS. Our lab explores the design and development of intelligent textiles and soft systems across scales to reimagine and shape future objects and wearables, interactions and environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Utilize and advance digital knitting, weaving, embroidery, sewing, and other textile methodologies.
• Maintain textile laboratory equipment and research supplies through routine maintenance, cleaning, and procurements.
• Train and assist research team members regarding textile equipment, garment making, and various soft-hardware integration techniques.
• Fabricate technical textile materials and samples, and document processes for review.
• Conduct research in intelligent textiles, fabric actuation, and sensing technologies.
• Communicate results through presentations, reports, figures, and articles for publication in collaboration with the research team.
• Contribute to laboratory operations, supervision, and the teaching of students across all levels in textile/fashion design and engineering.
Qualifications
Qualifications
• University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in fashion, textiles, industrial design, fine arts, media arts, computer science, or another relevant discipline. Alternatively, equivalent industry experience in textiles or textile-related organizations.
• Experience in digital machine knitting, weaving, embroidery, sewing, and/or other textile-based crafts.
• Knowledge in flat-bed, circular, or whole-garment knitting technology.
• Proficiency in programming for knitting and weaving machines.
