Job Description
This position is dedicated to advancing the understanding and practical applications of phonon polaritons in van der Waals materials and heterostructures. The role encompasses exploring new phenomena, effects, and high-performance devices based on phonon polaritons, with a focus on enhancing light control at the nanoscale. The main targets are threefold:
1. Conduct comprehensive research and understand in depth the phonon polaritons in van der Waals materials and heterostructures, and explore new effects, novel phenomena, unique features and high-performance devices based on phonon polaritons. Research directions include hyperbolic materials, phonon-plasmon coupling, etc.
2. Explore phonon polaritons across various types of van der Waals materials and heterostructures from the aspect of electromagnetics. The research results should be able to efficiently provide a new perspective for understanding the physics behind new phenomena and be expected to provide functionalities for light control at the nanoscale.
3. Design and execute experiments, including nanofabrication and near-field characterization, to validate theoretical models and concepts related to phonon polaritons. Evaluate device performance and functionality through rigorous experimental testing and detailed data analysis.
Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth physical insights and interdisciplinary knowledge of electromagnetics, near-field optics, material science, etc. Practical experience in the simulation, design, fabrication, measurement and characterization of phonon polaritons in optical crystals and van der Waals materials is preferred.
Qualifications
1. Minimum a Master’s degree in Physics or Photonics with a strong background in near-field nano-optics.
2. At least 2 years’ working experience in the field of electromagnetic theory, near-field optics, and material science relevant to phonon polariton research.
3. Mathematics and specific knowledge required in electromagnetics, nanophotonics, low-dimensional materials, near-field optics.
4. Technical proficiency: 1) theoretical and numerical modeling of phonon polaritons and other physical systems with appropriate software; 2) experimental experience on nanodevice such as nanofabrication including electron beam lithography, e-beam deposition, and characterization methods including atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, etc. 3) optical characterization skills on nanostructures involving measurement of Raman spectrum, reflection and transmission spectra, near-field measurement using scanning near-field optical microscopy.
5. Candidate should have strong publication records in reputed International Journals in the field of phonon polaritons and near-field optics.
6. Open to Fixed Term Contract.
