Job Description

Research Engineer position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National University of Singapore (NUS). With a strong focus on industrial projects, we are developing our exciting technologies beyond the lab scale. We are seeking a talented and experienced individual with a background in chemical engineering and electrochemistry to join us. 

As a Research Engineer, you will contribute to our industry projects focusing on scaling up our electro-metallurgical battery recycling technologies from lab to pilot scale. Main activities include 

Process Development, Testing and Optimization
•    Design, Test and optimize leaching, separation and electrochemical experiments at various process scale systems. 
•    Apply statistical tools for design of experiments (DOE), regression analysis, and process optimization.
•    Conduct electrochemical analysis, including cyclic voltammetry, LSV and other related techniques.
•    Perform application testing with various feedstock samples.

Collaboration and Documentation
•    Work closely with R&D and engineering teams to achieve project goals.
•    Liaising with suppliers and contractors for procuring and setting up scale up systems.
•    Document all process development, testing, and optimization efforts, and contribute to technical reports and presentations.
•    Stay updated on industry advancements in critical materials recovery and recycling technologies.

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or any relevant field.
2.    1-3 yrs experience in Mineral processing, Hydrometallurgy and Electrochemical process is preferred. Prior hands-on experience in metals extraction (Li, Ni, Co, Mn, Cu) process development and piloting new technologies is desired. 
3.    Hands-on experience with material characterization techniques such as ICP, XRD, SEM and FTIR.
4.    HSC Chemistry and ASPEN for process simulation and thermodynamic modeling experience is desired but not essential.
5.    Strong analytical skills and experience in data analysis and interpretation.
6.    Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
7.    Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
8.    Experience in an R&D or industrial laboratory setting.
