Job Description

The Research Engineer (RE) will investigate the mechanisms governing the transport and deposition of microplastics in coastal waters, with a focus on integrating experimental and modelling approaches. Responsibilities include designing and executing hydraulic experiments to quantify microplastic settling behaviour in seawater and developing predictive models to describe particle dynamics under varying environmental conditions. The role will also involve examining the influence of turbulence on biofilm growth on microplastic particles, linking microscale processes to bulk transport behaviour. In addition, the Research Engineer will incorporate coastal wave dynamics and sediment transport processes into numerical simulations, ensuring consistency between laboratory observations and model outputs.

Job Requirements

•    Possess at least a bachelor’s degree in related field such as hydraulic engineering, environmental engineering, fluid mechanics, and sediment transport.
•    Master’s degree and having relevant research experience are preferred.
•    Strong written and spoken communications skills.
•    Strong quantitative thinking and ability to analyse data is required.
•    Relevant knowledge of CFD analysis, experimental techniques and programming skill is an advantage.
•    Open to fixed-term contract.
