Job Description
The National University of Singapore is seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our team working on fire safety and hazard modelling for electric vehicles (EVs), including cars and buses. This project aims to advance understanding of thermal runaway, fire propagation, and explosion risks in large-scale battery systems to support the safe deployment of EV technologies. The position needs to work with the experimental team to conduct collaborative research.
The responsibility includes
- Develop and apply computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and fire dynamics models to study EV battery fires and fire spread in vehicles.
- Investigate thermal runaway mechanisms, gas release, flame development, smoke dispersion, and explosion risks in EV systems.
- Collaborate with experimental groups to design and interpret validation tests.
- Publish findings in high-impact journals and present at international conferences.
- Support proposal writing, project reporting, and mentoring of graduate students.
Qualifications
• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, Energy Systems, or a closely related field.
• Strong expertise in numerical modelling and simulation, especially CFD (e.g., OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, FDS).
• Knowledge of battery systems, EV safety, combustion, or fire science is highly advantageous.
• Proficiency in programming (Python, C++, MATLAB, or similar) for simulation and data analysis.
• Demonstrated research ability with publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.
