Job Description
Some Research Fellow positions are open in the research group of Prof. Shuzhi Sam Ge at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).
Job Description
This project aims to develop an intelligent switching control framework that integrates advanced modeling, adaptive control strategies, and self-learning capabilities for modular reconfigurable mobile robots (MR2) operating under varying configurations and nonholonomic constraints.
The successful candidate is required to:
Develop comprehensive kinematic and dynamic models of MR2 robots with various configurations and nonholonomic constraints;
Design and implement adaptive switching control strategies for seamless transitions between control modes and physical configurations;
Analyze controllability, observability, and stability of switched systems under feedback control;
Incorporate machine learning or reinforcement learning methods to enable self-learning and task adaptation across varying environments and payloads;
Contribute to the integration of simulation tools and digital twin platforms for control validation and performance evaluation;
To advance the knowledge, to publish in leading journals, conferences, or patents;
To prepare and meet the project deliveries and milestones.
Qualifications
A PhD in Robotics, Control Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field;
Strong background in control theory (especially switched or adaptive systems), robotic modeling, or dynamic systems;
Experience in mobile robot design, modular robotics, or nonholonomic system control is advantageous;
Prior knowledge or interest in reinforcement learning, hierarchical learning, or transfer learning techniques is a plus;
Proficiency in one or more programming/simulation environments: MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C++, ROS, etc.;
Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team;
Strong organizational, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
Open to Fixed Term Contract.
