Research Fellow (Solar Energy Materials) 1

Job Description

The successful candidates will work with Dr. Mingyang Wei on solar energy materials under a project on start-up grant.

Our group focuses on the synthesis and characterization of functional semiconductors, including organic molecules, metal complexes, and colloidal quantum dots, as well as the development of organic-inorganic heterostructures and luminescent nanomaterials with applications in solar cells, light emission, and photodetection.

Responsibilities:

• Develop synthesis procedures for various chemical systems such as organic molecules, metal complexes, nanocrystals, and oxide semiconductors.
• Prototype heterostructure materials and conduct physical chemistry characterizations to analyse the structural and chemical properties of materials.
• Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness in the workplace to ensure a safe and efficient research environment.
• Mentor graduate students and research assistants; provide training on new processes developed in the lab.
• Contribute to grant writing and actively seek external funding and fellowship opportunities.
   

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong background and expertise in at least one of the following chemistry fields: organic, inorganic, analytical, or physical.
• Proficiency in using and maintaining key laboratory equipment, including gloveboxes, fume hoods, Schlenk lines, vacuum systems, annealing furnaces, and spectrometers.
• Competence in material characterization and analysis methods such as NMR, XPS, FTIR, UV-Vis, PL, and XRD.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.
