Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Research Fellow (Environmental Noise) for a 12-month appointment, which may be renewed.

The primary objective of this research initiative is to investigate and forecast the physical and psychological impacts of greenery on noise reduction. This study aims to yield valuable insights into noise mapping techniques, the psychological effects of greenery, and the prediction of noise annoyance, thereby informing policy-making related to the development of healthier urban environments.

The proposed research project encompasses a range of interdisciplinary challenges, including social sciences, architecture, and engineering, addressing issues from landscape and urban planning to the integration of technology, human perception, and scientific analysis. The Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting and leading simulations, field measurements, data analysis, as well as laboratory and field testing throughout the duration of the project.

Qualifications

•    Professional requirements: 
o    PhD (or equivalent) in acoustics (preferred specialisation: Architectural acoustics and Soundscape) or related discipline.
o    Essential are demonstrated knowledge related to acoustic modelling, noise mapping, measurement and soundscape.
o    Essential are demonstrated experience in conducting experiments and data analysis on psychoacoustics and perception

•    Other general requirements:
o    Essential is a demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research with limited supervision.
o    Essential are outstanding academic writing skills, as demonstrated by a strong track record of publications relative to opportunity.
o    Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
o    Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
