Visiting Research Professor (Biosonar)

Job Description

The department is looking for an established and renowned scholar or practitioner in the field of Bioinspired Robots, Deep-Learning for Sensing and Control, Autonomy in Natural Environments to serve as a visiting professor. 

The research agenda of the sabbatical will address two to three aspects of flapping-flight MAVs inspired by bats, in particular its (i) aerodynamics, (ii) robotic replication, and - if time permits - its acoustic characteristics. The research work, especially on topics (i) and (ii), will build on three strands of ongoing research: (i) The collection of experimental data from bat flight that has started in Brunei in the summer of 2023 and will be continue in the summer 2024, (ii) complexity analysis of bat flight kinematics, and (iii) design and implementation of biomimetic MAVs.

Qualifications

•    Holding professorship in IHL or equivalent in industry
•    Established individual in the field of Bioinspired Robots, Deep-Learning for Sensing and Control, Autonomy in Natural Environments
•    Rich teaching or practice experiences in Bioinspired Robots, Deep-Learning for Sensing and Control, Autonomy in Natural Environments
•    Rich international exposure in both academia and industry
