We are seeking an experienced Bioinformatics Scientist to advance our research in oral microbiome. Responsibilities for this position include:
- Collaborate with clinicians and experimental scientists to evaluate and integrate established bioinformatic workflows and tools for microbiome analysis.
- Develop, test, and improve custom bioinformatic workflows, focusing on bacterial taxonomy, transcriptomics, and metagenomics.
- Analyse microbiome data and provide biological interpretations to refine hypotheses and experimental designs.
- Support wet-lab researchers by assisting with critical experiments to validate computational predictions as needed.
- Support clinicians in the analysis of patient-derived data to validate clinical hypotheses.
- Establish and implement data storage strategies, designing and maintaining custom databases for data management.
- Maintain meticulous documentation for all workflows, analyses, and results to ensure reproducibility and accuracy.
- Generate publication-quality figures, tables, and accompanying methods and results sections from bioinformatic data analyses.
Qualifications
Degree in Genetics, Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field. Previous experience in microbiome or bacterial-host bioinformatics is required.
- Proficiency in raw data processing, taxonomical annotation, and analyses of 16s rRNA datasets (ie DADA2, MaSalin2, Random forest analyses etc).
- Proficiency in raw data processing, taxonomical and functional gene annotation for the analysis of metagenomic datasets, with an emphasis on antimicrobial resistance and bacterial metabolic pathways.
- Reconstructing and analysing metagenome-assembled genomes.
