Job Description

This position is dedicated to advancing the exploration and applications of reconfigurable topological photonic crystals based on a soft-matter platform. The role encompasses developing the new tunable topological photonics control methods and demonstrating on chip reconfigurable devices using liquid crystal topological photonics in the near-infrared band. The main targets are threefold:

1. Conduct comprehensive research and understand in depth the topological effects based on group theory, and develop new scheme of topological photonic crystals based on symmetry breaking of liquid crystal. Establish topological models and complete the structure analysis of cholesteric liquid crystal, ferroelectric liquid crystal, and blue liquid crystal. Research results should provide a new perspective for reconfigurable topological photonic crystal regulation.

2. Explore the modulation mechanism of electromagnetic waves under the topology structure based on the diversity of liquid crystals and their different responses to electricity, light, force and heat. Explore the precise control of liquid crystal in nanoscale and eliminate the influence of viscous effect of liquid crystal on topological effect.

3. Study the design, process and control methods of tunable topological devices based on the dynamic characteristics of liquid crystals, combined with the requirements of the topological structure symmetry breaking.  Execute experiments and evaluate device performance in near-infrared band.

Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth physical insights and interdisciplinary knowledge of electromagnetics, topology science, material science, etc. Practical experience in the simulation, design, fabrication, measurement and characterization of liquid crystal in topological photonics is preferred.

Qualifications

1. PhD Degree in topological photonic crystals, liquid-crystal optics with a strong background in topological photonics crystals.

2. Working experience in the field of electromagnetic theory, soft matter photonics, and material science relevant to topological photonics research.

3. Mathematics and specific knowledge required in condensed matter physics, electromagnetics, nanophotonic, soft matter photonics, and metamaterials.

4. Technical proficiency: 1) theoretical and numerical modeling of liquid crystal and other physical systems with appropriate software; 2) experimental experience on nanodevice such as nanofabrication including electron beam lithography, e-beam deposition, and characterization methods; 3) chemical experimental experience on liquid crystal molecule synthesis, mixing, and structure analysis; 4) optical characterization skills on nanostructures involving measurement of reflection and transmission spectra, near-field measurement using scanning near-field optical microscopy.

5. Candidate should have strong publication records in reputed International Journals in the field of liquid crystal and topological photonics.

6. Open to Fixed Term Contract.
