Job Description

The incumbent will be handling the Intellectual Property Management and Commercialisation portfolio. This includes developing and maintaining relationships with the NUS research community for the purpose of facilitating the commercialization NUS technologies and evaluating commercialisation potential of newly disclosed technologies as well as the patentability potential within the IP portfolio for materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage with researchers and students in various departments in NUS on commercialisation matters.
  • Evaluate the commercialisation potential of newly disclosed technologies as well as the patentability potential within the IP portfolios. 
  • Liaise with industry, government agencies and technology transfer offices of research institutions/universities, both locally and internationally.
  • Develop plans for spinning out technology companies together with researchers and students.
  • Marketing activities directed to branding and promotion of NUS and ILO as a resource for technology-based solutions to industry needs.
  • Attract interest for licensing NUS technologies from external parties.
  • Facilitate or encourage technology development between NUS and industry. 
  • Negotiate several licensing deals each year.
  • Assist NUS community on all matters pertaining to capturing value through IP protection, management, licensing and commercialisation including starting a company.
  • Structure collaboration arrangement between NUS and the external collaborators. 
  • Manage a portfolio of technologies and patent applications, at various stages of completeness and to be acting continuously to raise the readiness of the technology for commercialisation.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Material Science, preferably PhD in Chemistry, Chemistry Engineering, Semiconductor and Material Science.
  • Ability to appreciate the current state of technological development in Science & Research.
  • Early stage company business development and marketing experience.
  • Possess product development experience.
  • Possess technology licensing experience.
  • IP management experience.
  • Possess Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) qualification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry value chain preferably in Semiconductor industry, Advanced Material industry.
  • Experience negotiating transactions.
  • Knowledge of company incorporation, share capitalisation, early stage venture funding and product development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Customer centric, creative thinker and inquisitive.
