The Associate Director (Software Development) is a technical leadership role, responsible for the design, development and maintenance of applications and solutions. You will lead a team of high-performing software engineers to create trailblazing solutions for NUS. 


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own and oversee software development efforts and architecture design of Java and .Net applications in NUS IT.
  • Responsible for technical project leading, management and delivery, including resources planning, project implementation, architectural design, application development, process/performance review, budget costing, etc.   
  • Work closely with both technical and functional teams including project managers, business analysts, solution architects, developers, infra team, security team, etc, to establish project plans, project resources, project execution and post-implementation support throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to ensure effective project delivery according to the budget and schedule given.
  • Drive and manage project end to end delivery including requirement, design, development, testing, migration and deployment.
  • Plan test strategy and coordinate defects review, bug fixes, re-testing and closure within project timeline.  
  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution.
  • Drive adoption of new technologies and methodologies in application development.
  • Collaborate and work closely with domain experts from infrastructure and security expert to integrate pertinent requirements, priorities and best practices into application development and maintenance support processes. 
  • Acquire, allocate and optimise the use of team resources.  
  • Develop learning roadmaps to support the professional development of the team. 
  • Monitor and track the team’s achievements and key performance indicators. 


  • A relevant university degree with at least 15 years of proven working experience.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in large-scale application design, development and support.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in managing teams and outsource vendors.
  • Familiar with project management and agile processes, tools and methodologies. 
  • Solid knowledge and implementation experience with Java, Spring Boot, .NET, ASP.NET Core, Angular and Web Services.
  • Practical hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Microservices and DevOps will be an advantage.
  • Experience in procurement activities is an advantage.
  • Able to work with diversified group of stakeholders, high performing teams and align to business objectives and outcomes. 
  • Strong analytical ability and attention to detail with the ability to deep dive when required.
  • Self-motivated and results oriented with excellent analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
