About the Role


To augment our manpower resources in the School, we are looking for a Business Development Manager who will support our business expansion in Singapore and Southeast Asia. We will be prioritising applicants who are eligible to work in Singapore, and do not require NUS's sponsorship of a visa.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will need to have strong problem-solving, communications and project management skills. He or she will demonstrate curiosity, creativity, collaboration and the ability to deal with ambiguity especially in a start-up environment. The successful candidate will also be result-oriented, have a clear vision of what he/ she wants to achieve,  a keen read of the market, and be able to put together a scalable business strategy including how to grow the sales pipeline, engage with clients and be capable of building successful long-term relationships.


This role is offered on a 3-year renewable contract basis; renewal is subject to satisfactory job performance. 


Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies. 


The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

•    Define opportunities and engagement plans, build and manage effective relationships with clients and partners, and have a keen read of the market to position NUS’s products in the right channels
•    Become the voice of the customer internally, sense customer needs and external market changes and effectively communicate them across the organisation
•    Strategize and manage the marketing and outreach for B2C and B2B2C programmes
•    Manage demand and supply-side engagements across opportunities, build relationships and trust, foster collaboration and customer experience with internal and external stakeholders
•    Keep abreast with and make sense of global industry trends and current affairs relating to the future of work to draw insights and learnings in relevance to lifelong learning products at NUS
•    Build strong, positive relationships with internal stakeholders such as operations, IT & eLearning teams, as well as the various schools and faculties across NUS
•    Convey SCALE’s value proposition, lead business proposal presentations and meetings with clients 
•    Support institution-building projects that play a critical role in helping SCALE deliver our mission in a sustainable and scalable manner




Academic & Professional Certification
•    A good Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a reputable university
•    Strong English proficiency, both written and spoken, is essential
•    Being conversant in a second Asian language, e.g. Bahasa, Tagalog, or Vietnamese, will be an advantage in managing clients in the region 
•    IT savvy and possess basic data analytics skills. Past experience with using CRM systems such as Dynamics 365 would be an added advantage.


Experience & Attributes 
•    Possess the passion and drive to be part of a mission to transform the way higher education is delivered
•    At least two years of business development and/or marketing experience, with proven track record in a fast-paced environment and multiple stakeholder management experience 
•    Exposure to international executive education or programmes for a pre-university audience. Prior experience in an institute of higher learning would be an added advantage
•    Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, strong team player, sensitive to different cultures and environments
•    A strong desire to win, with the ability to work fast and smart independently
•    A keen willingness to continually develop personal and professional skills
•    Possess a “can-do” attitude, intellectually curious, highly collaborative, with an entrepreneurial temperament and comfortable to work in a flat, “all hands-on-deck” environment
•    Strong project management ability and a keen eye for details to drive multiple work streams and manage stakeholders in diverse settings
•    Sensitive to numbers, able to manage budgets, ensure compliance, and analyse the financial impact of key business decisions and actions
•    Ability to think on one’s feet, manage and respond to negative situations and problems in a timely and effective way
•    Ability to independently conduct market studies, from designing the study, gathering data, structuring quantitative and qualitative analyses to presenting insights and findings to senior management
•    Exemplary ambassador of NUS and SCALE and its mission and programmes
•    Comfortable with ambiguity and a self-starter – we are a fast-growing business; there will always be unchartered territories and pushing of boundaries – which is part of the fun!
