Laboratory Executive (Open Laboratory) (Mechanobiology Institute)

Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI), National University of Singapore is seeking a Laboratory Executive (Open Laboratory). This position will fundamentally maintain and manage the Open Lab for the MBI researchers and support in related Open Lab responsibilities (i.e. procurement, trainings, risk assessments, maintenance of equipment etc). 

Primary responsibilities:

• Maintain the open laboratory in functional state for MBI research personnel
• Procurement of service contracts and lab consumables
• Liaise with service engineers and sales representatives for maintenance of common equipment
• Writing and revising standard operating procedures and risk assessments for new and existing equipment or procedures
• Coordinate and conduct trainings for users of the open lab
• Implementation of laboratory safety procedures as directed by the facility manager with the direction of MBI Safety Committee
• Coordinate and oversee the collection of hazardous wastes for the institute
• Other duties as directed by the facility manager

Qualifications

• A Diploma or Bachelor degree in life science or biological science
• Prior experience (>1 year) in a biological laboratory
• At least 2 years of laboratory management experience in either individual lab or a shared facility
• Possess excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Organized, meticulous, able to work together in a team as well as independently
• Prior experience in either safety management and/or knowledge of tissue culture are added advantages
