Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.  Appointments will be made on a 1 year contract basis. The Department is actively engaged in cutting edge research that encompasses basic science research and translational application. We have a very strong research culture with emphasis on translating our findings from the laboratory bench to the development of novel and useful clinical therapies.

 

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the project on time. The RA’s principal role will be to work in general practices such as cell culture, conduct experiment and perform various biochemical and histological analysis, and assist in animal study.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will liaise with the relevant personnel in the project team and will be accountable to the Principle Investigator (PI). The RA has to:

  1. Undertake the day to day running of the project and collaborate with team members, analyse data and maintain project database;
  2. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures; 
  3. Undertake laboratory-based work, including cell culture, PCR, Western Blot, immune-histochemical analysis, etc
  4. Participate in animal study, such as pre-operation preparation, assisting in operation, and post-operation animal maintenance;
  5. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should have:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university, preferably in life sciences;
  2. Experience in laboratory-based work, such as cell culture, Western Blot, PCR and/or histology; or
  3. Strong aptitude in research work;
  4. Good oral and written communication skills;
