Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the role of Research Assistant/ Associate with the Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HRPC is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the NUS, to spearhead and conduct research and development to better enable the future challenges arising from climate change & extreme heat.  Appointments will be made on a two-year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant/Associate will play a key role in assisting in the development, execution and analysis of research aimed at addressing the challenges of training and operating in rising ambient temperatures. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to not only develop your expertise in research planning and execution, but also to be a part of the team looking to generate fundamental and forward-looking solutions to working in the heat.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties and of responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: - 

  1. Work with research PIs and teams to develop new research ideas;
  2. Perform literature searches, assimilate and summaries key information, as well as identify knowledge gaps;
  3. Design and conduct relevant studies and surveys (qualitative and quantitative, including lab and outfield studies);
  4. Establish and manage large databases;
  5. Interpret and analyse data;
  6. Generate reports and present data to relevant stakeholders;
  7. Contribute to conference presentations and write papers for submission to peer reviewed journals; and
  8. Collaborate across teams, contributing to multiple research projects at onceAssist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

A minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Data Science, or equivalent. Candidates with strong data science and analytics background and keen to delve into heat health research are strongly encouraged to apply as well). Experience in statistics, data analysis and visualisation software (e.g. SPSS, Power BI), and computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, data management and online meeting tools) would be required as well.

In addition, the role will require the following job relevant experience or attributes:

  1. Keen interest in the area of heat health and human performance
  2. Proficient in qualitative research
  3. Proficient in data analysis tools in quantitative research
  4. Two or more years of research experience would be an advantage
  5. Proven knowledge of data collection methods
  6. Good written and verbal communication skills
  7. Good presentation skills and ability to write research reports for publication in reputable journals
