Call for Research Assistant (Transport Geography)

Awarded by Singapore’s Social Science Research Council (SSRC), a Social Science and Humanities Research (SSHR) Fellowship, led by Principle Investigator Dr Lin Weiqiang (National University of Singapore), is seeking to appoint one Research Assistants (RA) to contribute to the team’s research activities on airport infrastructure, automation and labour.

The assistantship will be hosted at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The successful applicant preferably holds a Bachelor degree in the Social Sciences and Humanities or cognate disciplines. Interest in air transport, labour issues, automation, technology and migration are pluses, but not essential. Ideally, the successful applicant is familiar with NUS. 

 

Job Scope

The job scope and responsibilities of the RA are as follows:
-    Provide able administrative and research support, including, but not limited to, documentary preparation for project-related applications, organization of meetings and library research.
-    Provide assistance in interview transcription, translation (from foreign languages, including Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Hindi and/or Tamil, to English), coding and data analysis
-    Provide fieldwork support in terms of recruiting participants, setting up and conducting interviews (both on-site and virtually). There may be opportunities for travel.
-    Assist in occasional workshop logistics (call for papers, invitations, accommodation booking etc).
-    Support the PI and the team in any other research needs related to the project.

 

Terms and Conditions

 

Detailed terms and conditions of employment are as follows:
-    Contract to be awarded for 12 months in the first instance, starting October 2022.
-    The appointment will be eligible for extensions. 
-    A competitive salary will be offered, with eligibility for yearly increment. 
-    Singapore citizens and permanent residents are eligible for Provident Fund benefits.

-    Formal vacation leave of 28 days per calendar year.
