Senior Back-End Developer (SrBD) for AI Singapore (Technology)

Job Description

AI Singapore (AISG) is a national AI programme launched by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to anchor deep national capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI). 

 
The programme office is hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and brings together all Singapore-based research institutions and the vibrant ecosystem of AI start-ups and companies developing AI products to perform use-inspired research, grow the knowledge, create the tools, and develop the talent to power Singapore's AI efforts. 

We are looking for a senior back-end developer to join the Technology Pillar in AI Singapore to design and build web applications that translate AI research into products of high social impact to benefit the people of Singapore. 

You will be working with a diverse team of web developers, AI engineers, AI researchers, and project managers to achieve this goal through assisting in project planning, designing the system architecture, and implementing the cloud-deployed micro-services to support the system design. You will also coach back-end developers to use best practices.

Duties & Responsibilities 
●    Participate in system architecture design, and planning for web application projects.
●    Guide the back-end developers towards better software development practices through code reviewing.
●    Define and implement API micro-services to support front-end development, and AI engine integration.
●    Design and implement database schema to support requirements of web application.
●    Analyse, propose, and deploy relevant technologies that can achieve the requirements.
●    Collaborate with front-end developers and other team members to improve usability.
●    Create quality mock-ups and prototypes.
●    Stay up to date on emerging technologies and techniques.
 

Qualifications

●    A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline;
●    At least 3 years of experience in full software development life cycle with evidence of playing leadership roles in a back-end developer capacity;
●    Hands-on experience with database schema design, object-relational mapping, and basic security practices for API design;
●    Hands-on programming experience with Python and Flask, and integration with database systems like MySQL or PostgreSQL;
●    Hands-on experience with GNU/Linux command line, and Docker containerisation;
●    Hands-on experience with using source control tools like git;
●    Strong critical thinking and multi-tasking skills, with a strong sense of initiative;
●    Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills in English; and
●    Experience in working in a team with people of diverse skill sets.
