Student Support Manager (Residential Life), NUS College

Job Description

You will provide support to students in NUS College and help to implement a residential curriculum. This role will require you to live on campus. You will be assigned to one of the residential units in NUS College (currently Cinnamon Wing and West Wing) and your primary responsibilities will be within that residential unit. However, you will also be expected to contribute to the overall residential and student life in NUS College.

Student Care
•    Serve as an member of the student care matrix of the residential unit to which you are assigned.
•    Provide support to students, coaching them through challenging situations and ensuring that they receive appropriate resources.
•    Serve as a case manager on assigned student care cases. Report to and coordinate with the relevant Master and the Vice Dean and maintain student confidentiality.
•    Live on campus and be a visible presence in the community and get to know students in your residential unit/wing.
•    Promote a positive residential environment. 

Residential Education
•    Serve in College-wide efforts to implement a residential education curriculum.
•    Collaborate with the Master, Vice Dean and other residential college staff to implement educational initiatives, and understand and apply stated learning objectives and assessment metrics.
•    Participate regularly in Master, Vice Dean, and Residential Fellow-led College programming and provide support to programming efforts.

Supervision
•    Supervise, guide and mentor Residential Assistants (RAs).
•    Conduct regular meetings with RAs, as prescribed by the Master.
•    Provide formal and informal evaluation and feedback regarding performance and expectations.
•    Oversee and review student RAs.
•    Assist with the recruitment, selection and training of RAs.

Crisis Management and Student Discipline
•    Participate in rotating duty coverage and emergency response, including shared responsibility for holiday, break, and summer coverage.
•    Provide leadership during crises and serve on the College crisis team.
•    Receive regular first aid and first-responder training and implement as necessary.
•    Be knowledgeable of the Code of Student Conduct, Sexual Misconduct Policy, housing regulations, and academic integrity policies; educate students about behavior, document incidents when they arise, mentor and support affected students.
•    Adjudicate low-level conduct cases for students in NUSC.

Administration
•    Attend and participate in regular administration meetings.
•    Work collaboratively with relevant NUSC and NUS units on housing operation matters.
•    Participate in fire drills each semester.
•    Maintain records and meet regularly with supervisor to provide check-ins, coordinate efforts, and discuss professional development.
•    Seek regular training and professional development in consultation with the supervisor and in line with NUS College’s strategic plan and priorities.
•    Assist other administrative units within NUS C on an ad hoc basis when necessary.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree required. Relevant degrees include student development, higher education administration, social work, counseling or similar. However, candidates who believe they meet the experience/aptitude/attitude qualities below should not censor themselves from applying if they hold other degrees.
•    Minimum 2 years experience in a student care or residential life role as student or professional staff.
•    Experience in community building, social work/case management of students in an academic setting, para-counselling of young adults, or willingness to receive training in these areas.
•    Experience supervising student or professional staff.
•    Ability to connect well with all kinds of students, inspire confidence and provide strong mentorship and support.
•    Familiarity with residential life in a collegiate setting.
•    Experience working with diverse student populations and comfortable with multi-national, multi-ethnic, and other forms of diversity.
•    Basic familiarity with student development and needs, including managing anxiety and stress, self-awareness, academic performance balanced with a growth mindset, specific issues associated with the milestones of each cohort level, etc.
•    Experience with managing disputes, mediation, conflict resolution, and educating students who may have violated rules or regulations.
•    Team player who collaborates and communicates effectively with others, takes responsibility for individual tasks and assignments, while working to ensure the approach and tone are aligned with the institution and other colleagues.
•    Selected candidates will be required to undergo periodic first-aid and crisis management training.
•    Approaches work with flexibility and a generosity of spirit.
•    Willingness to work nights and evenings, as needed, especially when on duty.
•    Experience in crisis management.

Successful candidates will be appointed on a 3-year contract.
