Job Purpose

The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is a policy research think-tank in the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

IPS is looking to hire an Executive for its Public Affairs team. The Executive will be responsible primarily for working with the General Editor of the Singapore Chronicles series of small books written by experts on a wide range of topics. 

This role is suitable for someone with a genuine interest in the varied facets of the Singapore story, and who enjoys reading, writing and interacting with people. 

The Executive will also assist the IPS Public Affairs team in its various tasks related to publications, social media content creation, managing media relations, public engagement and stakeholder reporting. 

Job Description

•    Work closely with the General Editor to be aware of the Singapore Chronicles titles being worked on, to coordinate the progress of each title, from conception to publication, and know the individuals involved at each stage of production. 
•    Liaise with authors at every stage of production, track progress, keep the General Editor informed of progress and alert him if there are problems or delays.
•    Liaise with the copyeditors of each book, keep the General Editor informed of progress and alert him if there are problems or delays.
•    Liaise with the publishers on timelines, sourcing of photographs, progress and production of each book.
•    Planning and executing the marketing and promotional activities of the book series and achieving the sales targets set.
•    Work with the General Editor to plan launch and promotion activities when appropriate.
•    Work with Public Affairs team to oversee IPS’ publications in terms of publishing and distribution
•    Market and promote the book series through the necessary retail channels, as well as ministries and other government agencies, to achieve sales targets
•    Develop content strategy and meaningful content to engage stakeholders through social media engagement and website
•    Assist in reporting to stakeholders 
•    Produce IPS collaterals and manage vendors
•    Upholding of editorial governance such that content is consistent with the Institute’s brand voice, style and tone
•    Assist in media relations for IPS events and media briefings for research findings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mass Communication or Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience in corporate communication, marketing, media, or public relations.
  • Demonstrated interest in Singapore, including its history and current affairs.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to produce clear, professional communications (emails, messages, and content). 
  • Motivated, resourceful and capable of working independently while managing tasks effectively.
  • Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, including content management, advertising, analytics, and audience engagement, with an editorial mindset.
  • Image and video editing skills for social media are advantageous 
  • Experience in journalism and editing with media organisations or public relations agencies will be an advantage.
  • A positive and cheerful personality will be considered an asset.
